The Product At some point in time, we decided that
Mother Nature's perfect package wasn't handy enough, and most
of our commercially produced corn is shelled in the field. Here,
the Yesteryear corn, because of the lower yields, worked well to pick in the ear, store in a crib and let natures breeze dry and cure it to a very high quality, high energy feed for all kinds of livestock. The Krause Family has now coupled the old idea of "ear corn" with 1990's seed technology. We begin by using many years of experience,
studying Hybrid characteristic data, and, in winter, selecting
just the right seed stock from some of the finest seed in the
world. The seed is carefully planted in some of Iowa's richest
black soil between April 15 and May 1. Over the summer, with
just the right amount of sun and rain, the "tall corn state"
will help to multiply that single seed by an average of at least
400 times in the form of a beautiful golden ear of corn. We will
then harvest and crib it at an average of 15 - 18% moisture content
and allow mother nature and her cool, dry fall breezes to keep
the corn fresh. The whole family again gets into the act as we
transfer the corn, one wagonload at a time to the farm shop for
processing. The corn is gravity fed to sorting tables where,
by hand, we will husk, sort, "Granddad's Best" is a premium ear corn, hand selected for quality and uniformity. "Granddad's Best" is packaged tightly so as to reduce shelling, as in other bags, but can "breath" through the air holes provided. You can also see and inspect each of ear of corn. Storeowners like "Granddad's Best" because of the good ears and tight package. There is no shelling, nubbins or broken ears to throw away, there is no waste. Right now we have available our hand selected, girthy eared, packages of seven ears as pictured. We will also work with the customer if other packaging would be preferred. |
